I think that chocolate covered bacon either sounds incredibly awesome, or incredibly gross to people. I have to admit that originally, I fell into the latter category. Then, this fall, we stumbled across the cutest sweet shop in Ellicott City, Maryland and came face to face with the beast itself. The owner was super nice and gave us some for free, and everyone loved it. So obviously we needed to try it ourselves. Surprisingly easy, surprisingly surprising, really. You think its chocolate, and then all of the sudden you hit some bacon. I’m telling you, don’t be scared. This is the conversation starter of all time.
It’s simple. Here’s what you need:
Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips
Raw bacon – It works best if not turkey bacon.
1. In a frying pan, cook bacon until almost burned. The crispier the better. After bacon has cooled, break up into small pieces and set aside.
Look at how nice and crispy that is.
2. Melt the chocolate. IF I had a microwave, I’ll admit I probably would have just gone that route. However, I had to melt mine in a double boiler. Watch the chocolate closely, because it goes from the perfect level of melty to hard and burned extremely quickly. Not that I learned this the hard way or anything….
3. Remove chocolate from heat (or microwave) and add the bacon, stirring until fully incorporated.
Spread evenly in a baking or cookie pan and place in the freezer to cool.
After the chocolate is fully cool, break it into bite size pieces and enjoy!
